TOUCH

Touch authenticity: Responsive Hammer keyboard action

The CL36’s superb Responsive Hammer keyboard action recreates the supreme touch of an acoustic grand piano, with its realistic movement and rigid, springless design providing a smooth and natural piano playing experience.  The RH construction is built for reliability, with structural reinforcements throughout the action assembly that help to minimise noise and key wobble during staccato and fortissimo passages.

Acoustic piano key weighting

Just as acoustic pianos utilise heavier bass and lighter treble hammers, the Responsive Hammer keyboard action also employs different hammer weights, appropriately graded for each playing range.  Such details provide greater stability during fortissimo passages, while preserving delicate pianissimo control, to satisfy the demands of the most discerning pianists.

Ivory Touch key surfaces

The impressive CL36 features Kawai’s highly regarded Ivory Touch key surfaces as standard.  This finely textured material gently absorbs fingertip perspiration and oils to assist playing control, and possesses a natural, matte finish that is smooth but not slippery.

Furthermore, this moisture is absorbed without dirt or grease permeating the surface, allowing the keytops to be wiped clean easily using just a damp cloth.

SOUND

The Sound of a Grand Piano: Kawai EX concert grand

The Kawai EX concert grand piano is widely regarded by professional pianists and piano technicians as one of the finest instruments within its class. Hand-built by Master Piano Artisans at the Shigeru Kawai Piano Research Laboratory in Ryuyo, Japan, each EX instrument undergoes a meticulous regulation and refinement process within a specially designed anechoic chamber.

Following this lengthy crafting period, the completed EX concert grand piano receives a final series of rigorous quality inspections, before eventually taking centre stage in the world’s most prestigious musical institutions and concert halls.

True character in every note

The CL36 digital piano captures the beautiful sound of Kawai’s highly acclaimed concert grand piano, with all 88 keys of this exceptional instrument meticulously recorded, analysed and faithfully reproduced using advanced Harmonic Imaging technology.

Recording each key individually in this way, preserves the rich harmonic character of the EX concert grand piano, and guarantees that the sound heard when playing any one of the CL36’s weighted keys is a faithful representation of the original acoustic source.

Harmonic Imaging technology

When playing a fine piano, the amount of pressure applied to the keyboard affects not only the volume of the sound produced, but also the unique tonal character of each note.  Therefore, in order to construct a realistic acoustic portrait of the EX concert grand piano, not only is each key recorded individually, but also at various different volumes, ranging from gentle pianissimo to thunderous fortissimo.

The CL36 offers a highly detailed acoustic portrait, employing Kawai’s proprietary Progressive Harmonic Imaging sampling technology to ensure smooth tonal transitions across the keyboard and throughout the entire dynamic range.

Realistic reverberation

The CL36’s digital effects engine further enhances the instrument’s core sounds, applying additional reverberation effects that simulate the acoustic environment of a recital room, live stage, or concert hall, bringing performances to life.

The result is a rich, vibrant piano tone that delivers breathtaking realism and authenticity.

FEATURES

The Variety of a Digital Piano: Convenience & Flexibility

Complementing the instrument’s excellent Responsive Hammer keyboard action and Progressive Harmonic Imaging piano sounds, the CL36 also offers a variety of convenient digital features that further enhance one’s musical enjoyment.  A selection of different instrument voices, built-in lesson songs, and the ability to record and playback one’s performance are just some of the features accessible from the discretely placed cheek-block control panel.

Additional sounds & playing modes

Supplementing the beautiful acoustic piano voices, the CL36 also features an modest selection of additional sounds, ranging from electric pianos and drawbar or church organs, to strings, human choirs, and synth pads, inviting musicians to add greater variety to their performances.

Furthermore, the Dual playing mode also allows two different sounds, such as grand piano and strings, to be layered together, while the Four Hands mode divides the keyboard into two independent 44-key sections.  This feature is particularly useful in learning environments, allowing teacher and student (or student and student) to play together at the same time using a single instrument.

Built-in lesson function

The CL36’s convenient lesson function allows aspiring pianists to learn piano with classical Burgmüller and Czerny etudes, or song collections from the popular Alfred’s Basic Piano course books.

The left and right hand parts of each etude/song can be practiced separately, using the adjustable metronome feature to perfect timing in difficult passages, before recording the completed piece for self-evaluation.

* Notated scores and Alfred lesson books sold separately.

* Lesson song content dependent on market location.

Grand piano pedals

The CL36 incorporates three high-quality metal pedals into its stand, delivering the fully-fledged grand piano playing experience in an ultra-compact package. As with Kawai’s large console instruments, the CL36’s pedals replicate the damper, soft, and sostenuto functionality of a Kawai EX Concert grand piano, further enhancing this compact instrument’s acoustic piano-like authenticity.

Concert Magic playing mode

The unique Concert Magic function allows everyone to enjoy the thrill of playing the piano, regardless of age or musical ability.

Simply select one of the 40 built-in Concert Magic songs, listen to the demonstration example, and then tap any key on the keyboard with consistent timing and a steady beat to experience playing real music.

Energy conservation

The CL36 utilises energy-efficient components that reduce electricity consumption by over 60% compared to previous models.

Furthermore, the instrument’s optional power saving feature can also turn off the piano automatically after a specified period of inactivity, thus preventing unnecessary energy use.

DESIGN

Cabinet Finishes

The compact CL36 is available in three attractive cabinet finishes: Premium Rosewood, Premium Satin Black, and Premium Satin White, allowing musicians to coordinate their piano with a range of modern interiors.

* Cabinet finish availability dependent on market location.
